The following message is from Mr. Gerard Brutus, tournament director of the Bahamas Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament and a resident of the Abacos:
As you all know, earlier this month our beautiful home here in Abaco was almost entirely destroyed from the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.
Since the storm hit, many people have reached out to us in whatever they can – through comments on our website and Facebook pages or by directly messaging us. After ensuring that we survived, the top two questions have been:
The answer is a resounding YES! The Bahamas Blue Marlin Cup Fishing Tournament is still on for May 4, 2020. The Bahamas Blue Marlin Open is also still scheduled for May 16-19, 2020.
Hurricane Dorian might have made fishing in Abaco difficult, but the fishing tournaments allow fisherman (and women!) to fish the entirety of the Bahamas. There are so many islands in The Bahamas (more than 700, but who’s counting), each with their own unique charms – and each surrounded by beautiful blue waters where the marlin will be biting – so that definitely won’t be a problem. We will have six weigh stations set up throughout the islands to accommodate the far-flung action.
If you would like to make a donation to the recovery efforts here in Abaco, we recommend Austin Serving Abaco.
Austin Serving Abaco, ASA, is a registered 501(c)3 founded to assist Haitian immigrants and native Bahamians in need, with a focus on helping children receive an education, assisting them in meeting their basic needs, and creating an atmosphere of hope and encouragement. We invite you to make a difference in the lives of these children! They are currently on the ground making a huge difference to those suffering from this storm.
We believe strongly in the important work that Austin Serving Abaco is doing. That is why we will be donating 10% of all registration fees for the Bahamas Blue Marlin Cup Fishing Tournament to the organization.
Thank you all for your concern for us and for your support of the Bahamas Blue Marlin Cup Fishing Tournament and the Bahamas Blue Marlin Open Fishing Tournament. We look forward to seeing you in May.
